It belongs to the pea family (Fabaceae) and is a woody, deciduous climber that can reach heights of up to 10 meters. The plant is known for its cascading clusters of fragrant white flowers, which bloom in the late spring or early summer. The flowers grow in long, hanging racemes that can be up to 30cm long. The plant has pinnate leaves, which are typically green but can turn yellow in the autumn.
