Alocasia Hybrid Dark Star

Why You’ll Love the Alocasia 'Dark Star'

If you want the dramatic, oversized foliage of an Elephant Ear with superior durability, the Alocasia 'Dark Star' is built for you. A hybrid between Alocasia odora and Alocasia reginula, this plant combines the cold-hardiness and upright growth of odora with the rich, velvety darkness of reginula. The result? A fast-growing focal point that produces upward-pointing, ribbed leaves up to 3 feet wide, held high on bold, dark stems. It adds instant luxury, texture, and height to living rooms, offices, or covered patios.

  Complete Care Guide

• ☀️ Light Requirements: Thrives best in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves, but ensure it gets enough ambient light to maintain its rich coloration.

• 💧 Watering Needs: Water when the top 2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Keep the soil consistently moist during spring and summer, then reduce watering in winter during dormancy.

• 🌡️ Temperature & Humidity: Ideal temperatures range from 65°F to 80°F (18°C–27°C). Unlike finicky Alocasias, 'Dark Star' handles normal household humidity well, though it loves an occasional misting or air humidifier boost.

• 🪴 Soil & Potting: Use a rich, chunky, well-draining potting mix containing peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark to prevent root rot.

• 🧪 Feeding: Apply a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer monthly during the active growing season (Spring through Autumn).
