Short Pitch: Enjoy the iconic look of a Prickly Pear without the sharp needles. Bred by famous botanist Luther Burbank, the Burbank Spineless Cactus features broad, smooth green pads, bright yellow summer blooms, and delicious edible fruits. It is safe for homes with pets and children, making it the ultimate low-maintenance indoor and outdoor centerpiece.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 🚫 100% Spineless & Touch-Friendly: Engineered to grow smooth pads without large, aggressive spines—safe around pets and kids.

  • ☀️ Drought-Tolerant & Low Maintenance: Thrives on neglect. Perfect for busy plant owners or low-water landscapes.

  • 🌸 Vibrant Flowers & Edible Fruit: Produces striking yellow blooms in spring/summer followed by sweet, edible prickly pears (nopalitos).

  • 🏡 Versatile Growing: Thrives as an eye-catching indoor container plant or an outdoor xeriscape landscape feature.

Plant Care Specifications

  • ☀️ Light: Full sun to bright indirect light (at least 6 hours daily).

  • 💧 Watering: Low. Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly during winter.

  • 🪴 Soil: Well-draining cactus/succulent potting mix with perlite or pumice.

  • 🌡️ Temperature & Hardiness: Heat tolerant; hardy down to 20°F–25°F (USDA Zones 8b–11).

  • 🐾 Pet Safety: Non-toxic, though small tiny glochids can occasionally occur on mature outdoor growth, handling remains far safer than standard Opuntias.
