japanese maples, or Acer palmatum, are a native to Japan, as well as some regions of China and Korea. Acer palmatum "Shaina" is a cultivar of this species. It is a deciduous tree valued for its compact form and delicate, lacy leaves.
The "Shaina" cultivar is a little tree with a normal height and spread of 6 to 8 feet and 4 to 6 feet, respectively. When young, the slender, pointed leaflets of the deeply divided foliage have a rich purplish-red color; in the fall, they turn an even deeper shade of red.
